The main idea/theme of the book is about domestic violence and Justine Wentzell and her experience through an abusive relationship. She tells her story on how she got through this experience and how she "turned one nightmare into a million dreams." For most of the book, it focuses on the relationship between Justine and her Boyfriend Alexei and the trauma she went through psychologically and physically throughout many months in her own home. The characters contribute by showing us their thoughts and actions were done at the time and their reflections on their choices at the time. Justine after ending up in the hospital ones she finally lost it and called her dad not saying that Alexei abused her, but how she was feeling suicidal at the moment. Her dad responded quickly after and she shortly after got picked up by her aunt and taken to the hospital. Alexei, the boyfriend had been noticeably doing psychological abuse by saying, "that I needed to lose weight I was too curvy for his liking"(124), or "Russian girls would never wear that."(124) Eventually after getting fired from a job he starts to physically abuse her and blaming her for his problems, such as she's the reason he lost his job, or she pretends to love him. The book portrays the theme as overcoming trauma and the abuse she bluntly experienced, and how she decided to overcome it and not sit in the shadows forever "and one day I realized no, he does not win."(168) "I felt like a beaten princess being rescued from her burning tower."(55) she mentioned once she told her dad she was suicidal and was picked up by her aunt. The theme/idea of this book is important to focus on because abuse is still happening around the world and people are starting to step up more than ever. Stories like this are important to have so that other people going through similar experiences don't feel alone and hopefully feel a sense of hope if they two are going through a domestic relationship. These stories are also important to educate kids, teens, and adults so that we can prevent these condition as much as possible.

How did they keep beer cold in the Saloons of the Old West?
So nobody really questioned why or how beer was sometimes cool or cold and then warm, it was sorta a win or lose situation they’re was only luck and sometimes knowledge of the right place to go. Eventually some boy by the name of Carl Rachids, decided that warm beer was piousness to the body and it kills your organs! Well when word struck out about this accusation nobody knew who was right so they gave Carl the benefit of the doubt and declared that they only water cold beer. Some time passes and salons are trying to figure out each other secrets to keeping their beer fresher than their competitors. One day when I was about the age 18, my father told me to sneak into a famous “cool bear” salon in order to discover they’re secrets. The salons name was The Rusty Ink Salon, most popular salon in the west or at least the only one that won our towns vote. My father had his own salon in town although didn’t know their secrets to the “cool beer” and he tried almost everything he could’ve thought of. Big bucket of cold water, using cold bears to make other bears cold, shove theme in the ground. Once his head went blank he resulted to thievery, so he told me to go out to Rusty’s and sneak behind the counter to find any clues on how they kept their brews cold. I made it to the salon by noon and walked into the bar casually. “Hey Kid!” a man sitting at a table with a slim dark and long hat covering his face. “We bot kno- whay yo doin here” he said scurrilous. The man handed me what I thought was a finnimbrun but it was an old rusty skeleton key with a corner on the handle chipped off. He pointed towards a door behind the counter and said lamprophushly “GooOOO!”. He gave me a shove and I was on my way. They bartenders were at licence while I snuck past them to the skeleton hole key door in the back. The skeleton key was shoved into the old door and turned, jammed. I wiggled it furiously as a bartender noticed ruckus behind him and decided to investigate. I rip the key out of the wall and a chunk of wood falls off the door. The bartender said “Heyyyy, What- Yo- Doiin kid?” perfidiously. The key turned and I pulled the door toward me and it hit the man in the temple and he fell to the ground. I quickly closed the door behind me. My plan for the rest of the story was to have him find out some secret process but the only person that knows how to use it was the man that was hit in the head, and in the end you find out he has been telling this story the sheriffs the whole time who were threatening to hang him. Barns are red because a dude named Jared thought it was funny to comment on a YouTube video's "first" or "anyone watching this is 2018?". and was hunted down by the mafia for 24+ years of his midlife crisis years. He eventually ended up in an old farm living in a old barn. The barn was white as tropical sand and its where he spent most of his elderly years. One day he found a job offer on craigslist on a company who sells dog food, he decided to give it a try and it ended up being the mafia. That's when he realized he needs to change his identity, but he liked his named and the way he looked and couldn't afford to move. But he had a life time supply of red paint from selling counterfeit apples. He decided to paint his barn red so the mafia would go to the barn next door which happened to be white as well. He then was safe for the rest of his life. Until the government caught him for tax fraud they were like "that's a nice barn, let make one of our own.." and the red barn trend originated.
Why did pirates bother making prisoners or enemies "walk the plank" instead of just chucking them overboard?
When your stuck on a ship for weeks with nothing to do you start to get bored. How do you make things entertaining? Lets make things more fun than traditionally. But when your stuck on a floating wooden boat, what can you exactly make entertaining. With enough Lamprophony in the ship life and youll be able to change anything. Heres an idea, lets make people walk a long unstable plank and fall into a infested sea, sounds entertaining right? while the prisoners walking the unstable wooden hockey stick trying to inaniloquous we can close them in using our swords and weird weapons we made in our spare time. Sounds fun lets do it, So pirates than proceeded to try they're new fun idea in muiltiple situations and... they seemed to enjoy it. After a few days other crews started to copy their idea after passing by they're idle ship and watching a man jump off a wooden stick awkwardly poking out of the side of the boat. Other pirates decided man, we have been doing it all wrong guys we couldve been having so much more fun. So then the new pirate generation was exposed to this new tradition created by the one and only apathetic pirates. The discussion started off smoothly with different sides providing their points and what their mission is. After the first few topics, its started to become a roast fest on who has its the worst. They went over religion, lack of food, influence over the land, trading, and the very last, trading deals. I think the fishbowl conversation went very well once the roasting fest was over and the arguments and facts started to come up. I think the natives did the best expressing their points and ideas although the promoters ended up winning. The promoters had a trap card they can play "God made me do it" or "God guided me in that direction" whenever someone would put an accurate argument against them. The natives, however, had some good points to their argument of what they wanted and had a reason when someone proposed an argument against them. The most important point made was the hostile interaction between the natives and colonists and how the promoters had something to do with it even though they were not there. They both claimed that they burned each other's villages down and the promoters influenced the colonists to do so. The native's point was because the colonists were hostile to them once the natives help them there for the natives just fought back. Mostly everything made clear sense once the conversation was finished it just was a matter of deciding if it was important to the argument or not. I think I understand everything it makes sense so far and I look forward to the future. The two figures sit silently in the dark room with little to spare. They sit in the corner huddled together to keep warmth from the cold winter breeze. They’re food supply is slow and cannot obtain more due to they’re mutinied mindsets. Food is only acquired when the people respect authorities beliefs of slavery, witchcraft, and other harsh rules. The authority thwarts anyone who denies they’re beliefs and lets them die without any questioning. The people who hide in the darkness without belief of the authorities like to think narcissitic of themselves and believe that someday the higher ups will be taken down by a higher rule. Anyone dead was considered a canonizing spirit. The woman in the long white blanket was in Omissions for the authority council. A man superseding the woman's position due to more solid beliefs of the council. She now sits in a rotting room with her son and little to no food hoping for a change. For our first project of the year, we wanted to kick start the project through an integrated field trip. I noticed patterns in the scavenger hunt such as hunting down different architectural designs or different painting/artifacts. I noticed connections from the hunt we did at school and the hunt we did at Balboa such as the children activities (the puppet show and the stuffed animals). The most interesting artifact for me is the horse statue in the middle of Balboa. I thought the statue looked very well-crafted and you could tell the artist intentions it really brought the park together. The scavenger hunt didn't affect my claims of what the project was going to be in fact reinforced it with all of the stories, architectural and Spanish information we received. I can add that we now know it has something to do with children that's pretty much has been confirmed to the amount of exposure we have had to children activities. The museum was filled with useful information to answer any questions we had about culture, or social construct during that time period. It also had a lot of fun interactive activities to play with and stay entertained.
The last of the field trip would be the puppet show. I thought the puppet show at first was kind of creepy considering we didn't know what type of puppet show. With didn't know the actor very well so seeing him up on stage dressed in an unusual way with a clown nose was confusing. I began to like the show's creativity on how it presented the "puppets" by using normal objects spread around the stage to create these characters and story. I appreciated the creativity the man put into his work and how he didn't just purchase custom puppets but instead found objects that resemble the puppet and used that instead. I think through the lens of a child these would be really great because when you are a kid you have a lot of imagination. When seeing this as a kid you would see all of these everyday things that could be around your house and then come alive into these characters could be really fantasizing to a child. My first impressions so far with the 11th grade are for one a lot of work for the first week, I find myself spending an entire day when I get home working on homework. Spanish, Math, and Humanities are making sense although there are some things I don't quite understand and I need work on and eventually get ahold of. I'm looking forwatf for the independent project we are required to do for humanities honors and also looking forward to any future projects. So far on the topics, readings, and discussions, we have done. I find some of those challenging like the readings can be difficult because of the large reads. But reading does help me learn just as effectively. I think the best way I learn is through projects where you need to study, plan, and create I think you should have a tiny bit of joy when being taught. My strengths in humanities that help me with reading or projects is annotation and being persistent. I do need to work on my writing or possibly new strategies to keep long reads interesting. Although one of my goals this year is improve in those departments.
There are are many things I am interested, although the one topic I want to learn the most about is film history. Or the time period when film was discovered and started to become a story telling device. How films became a norm to society today and who's idea was it to create a picture story recorded for your entertainment needs. In a simpler term how films were brought to the point it is now a days. The reason being, it is a very interesting topic considering all of the famous stories that could be told and brought to life throught this platform. Plus the motivation or messages a movie can send. Another topic of history I would be interested in is the mexican american war and the conflict that occurred in the time period. I have learned a little about it in Spanish but I would like to go more into what made it happen and why it happened. Could be interesting to learn about a history that we benefited from since we live in California. Most of what they wrote was correct. I do have a love for photography and music, and I do like film as a hobby. Nothing was misinterpreted although I do love music I love to play guitar. I put the brand fender on there to show I have a love for guitars although it seems they didn't catch that hint. They may not have known the brand or just didn't go into more detail besides "likes music".
I only had time to add 4 images on my card before we ran out of time. The Logo "Fender" represents the guitar brand that is known for the famous Stratocaster and Telecaster electric guitars. Fender is my favorite guitar brand and I own an Electric Fender myself so I thought it would be appropriate to put in there. I also put a camera and a camera microphone to represent my love for photography and videography. The microphone was supposed to represent film and the camera was supposed to represent photography. When you had them together with your get videography. If I had more time I would add something about storytelling which is a big part of filmmaking and something I like to do but I need to work on. |
