For our first project of the year, we wanted to kick start the project through an integrated field trip. I noticed patterns in the scavenger hunt such as hunting down different architectural designs or different painting/artifacts. I noticed connections from the hunt we did at school and the hunt we did at Balboa such as the children activities (the puppet show and the stuffed animals). The most interesting artifact for me is the horse statue in the middle of Balboa. I thought the statue looked very well-crafted and you could tell the artist intentions it really brought the park together. The scavenger hunt didn't affect my claims of what the project was going to be in fact reinforced it with all of the stories, architectural and Spanish information we received. I can add that we now know it has something to do with children that's pretty much has been confirmed to the amount of exposure we have had to children activities. The museum was filled with useful information to answer any questions we had about culture, or social construct during that time period. It also had a lot of fun interactive activities to play with and stay entertained.
The last of the field trip would be the puppet show. I thought the puppet show at first was kind of creepy considering we didn't know what type of puppet show. With didn't know the actor very well so seeing him up on stage dressed in an unusual way with a clown nose was confusing. I began to like the show's creativity on how it presented the "puppets" by using normal objects spread around the stage to create these characters and story. I appreciated the creativity the man put into his work and how he didn't just purchase custom puppets but instead found objects that resemble the puppet and used that instead. I think through the lens of a child these would be really great because when you are a kid you have a lot of imagination. When seeing this as a kid you would see all of these everyday things that could be around your house and then come alive into these characters could be really fantasizing to a child.
