What struck me the most is how much driving this job requires and how much freedom comes with it as well. The first day it we began meeting at a coffee shop in San Marcos, then ended up driving to La Jolla for a meeting with a loan company, then meeting someone on craigslist to purchase equipment for a video shoot coming up. We also discussed the videos I was going to be editing the first week of the internship.
Being a freelancer job we didn't have any colleagues, although the people we met for meetings were very in-engaged at the beginning of these meetings, although my mentor taught me his strategies to engage the client into the conversation to get out of them what they want their final product to be. It was fascinating how some of the jobs can be manipulating the client into showing them their options and having them become more engaged in the process. What struck me most about the job I was doing was how impacting a few meetings can be In one day. We only did around three meetings for different planning events and that took around 6 to 8 hours just those few events, it makes me realize planning is extremely important being a freelancer. I am looking forward to shooting video for clients and learning different shortcuts to problems in the environment. I am also excited to get plenty of work to put on my portfolio and resume at the end of the month, considering the amount of editing I'm doing. I am wondering what the average workload is over the weeks and what the average payment at the end of the month is according to the jobs you’re responsible for every month. The yearly average is around 70000 to 100,000 depends on experience and publicity. So I wonder how accurate that is a discussion ill have with my mentor.

Where are you going?
I am working with the independent company "Ryan Video Production" Who is your mentor and what do they do? My mentor is a independent videographer that works with clients to create commercials, branding videos, and sometimes music videos. They have their own website with a portfolio of all the work they've been doing for five to ten years. Describe your project and daily responsibilities. My project is still being worked on, we thinking of having me edit a few projects for him or possibly I made make a branding video for his business like I did last year. My responsibilities are going to include, editing videos, filming, client interaction, and being a videographers assistant. What are you excited about learning during this internship experience? I'm excited to learn about the client interaction side of the business. I want to learn different tricks to deal with the clients, my mentor talked about a lot of it is guiding them in the right direction and most of them don't know what they want they just want a video. I'm also excited to learning about how he gets his clients and to start editing videos for clients. |
